My Handyman has been busy at the Seacoast Repertory Theater
(SRT) in Portsmouth, NH. We're exciting to have completed the women's
bathroom and the men's room should be done soon. Working on an older
building often presents challenges which our technicians enjoy. Here
are some of the creative solutions that went into this project.
Resources - This was a big project so My Handyman asked several other businesses to help. The majority of My Handyman's labor was donated to this community non-profit plus:
Project Management was provided by Tina Gleisner, President of My Handyman
Design was donated by Jennifer Myers, Jennifer Myers Interiors; Jennifer also did most of the work finding and buying the specialty products used to decorate the bathrooms
Tin Ceilings were installed by My Handyman; Tina Gleisner donated tiles for one bathroom
Painting was donated by My Handyman (women's bathroom) and Jen Croteau, Jen Croteau Wallpapering and Painting (men's bathroom painting over wallpaper)
This project demonstrates a strong commitment to the NH community. Equally exciting was the opportunity for several member businesses of 4 Walls 1 Roof to come together to benefit a non-profit by donating their services. My Handyman, Jennifer Myers Interiors and Jen Croteau Wallpapering and Painting are all 4 Walls members. Previously our donations have been in the form of auction contributions like Habitat for Humanity where 13 member businesses helped raise over $2,000 in this year's fund raiser.
Design - When SRT's Operations Manager asked for help selecting colors for the bathrooms, Tina knew it was time to get help. The Rep's logo was changing and the design needed to be strong enough to support future enhancements to the adjacent lobby.
Jennifer Myers researched old ( matching the
building's architecture) Broadway posters and found colors to match and
compliment the Rep's new logo. The mens bathroom is teal while the
women's bathroom is a deep mauve. Tin ceilings and pewter fixtures help
visitors remain in step with the shows being produced.
Water Resistant - Due to the possibility of new water leaks (these had delayed the project earlier), My Handyman needed to get very creative with the materials used throughout the project.
Repaired and framed damaged ceiling with pressure treated lumber
Selected tin ceiling tiles that will not sustain water damage the way traditional sheet rock does. The American Tin Ceiling company was able to meet the Rep's schedule requirements.
Sherwin Williams "Duration" paint for the range of materials being painted (brick, sheet rock and metal partitions).
Space Restrictions - While the original
design had pewter lights over the sinks, there was not enough height. We
adapted metal mesh sheeting (color similar to tin ceiling) to cover the existing lights to match the
design better.
